WHAT IS GEOS FINDAFONE?

Findafone is part of the patented GEOS System, a web-based facility, which enables an authorized user to locate and track GEOS members who have a GEOS-approved GPS/GSM phone, a standard GSM phone registered with GEOS on a network’s LBS platform (currently only available in the United Kingdom and Australia) or ANY GSM phone, registered with GEOS, and where the phone user has transmitted their location to the GEOS centre (a STATIC or TEXT Location). Specific Findafone services include the following:

  • GPS Location - GEOS Members who have registered a GEOS-approved GPS cellphone or GEOS GPS Locator device on the GEOS System may be located with an accuracy of up to 5 meters anywhere in the World. An authorized user with the appropriate passwords, may “ping” the cellphone, which will automatically respond to the GEOS System request and display the users GPS location on a web-based digital map. Company-authorized personnel or family members at home can instantly obtain current and accurate location information at any time and without the need to involve GEOS Control Center personnel through their own Internet equipped computer.
  • LBS Location - Where network conditions permit (currently the United Kingdom and Australia) GEOS Members who have registered a GSM cellphone on the GEOS System may be automatically located anywhere within the country on whose LBS network the cellphone is registered, without GPS technology. The accuracy of this system is however, at best, only about 70 meters and frequently may only be accurate to around 800 meters due to cellular network limitations. For this reason, whereas this type of locating has a wide range of applications, GEOS does not recommend LBS locating (also known as cellsite location systems) for security or travel safety applications. In all instances where accuracy is important, GEOS recommends GPS locating.
  • Static (or Text) Location - In situations where neither GPS nor LBS locating is available, Findafone can be used to display a Text Location. This is when a phone user manually sends a text message such as “Location Austin, Texas, USA” to the GEOS Service Center Number. The Findafone system positions the users’ phone on a digital map. This is a very simple way of keeping people informed about a phone user’s general location. An authorized Findafone user may also “ping” the cellphone, at which time a text message requesting current location verification will be sent to the cellphone and the phone user can respond with a current location automatically generated by acknowledging receipt of the text message. This facility may also be particularly useful for those subscribers receiving the Critical Intelligence Alerts service (which is available to Secure Traveler, Global Traveler and GEOS Pegasus members).
  • Findafone ASSIST - The ASSIST function allows the user to notify up to 6 other cellphones and/or email addresses that the phone user is in need of some form of assistance. Users with GPS phones will have their latitude and longitude transmitted to the other phones whereas users registered on LBS will notify their last known position. Users with Static Locations will also transmit their last known position. The location will also appear immediately on the web-based Findafone digital map. This is a self-contained system and does not involve the GEOS Command and Control Centre. To invoke the assistance services of the GEOS C&C Center requires a Global Traveler subscription.
  • Privacy Function - Phone users may control their own privacy setting by sending a text message to the GEOS Service Centre Number stating PRIVACY ON or PRIVACY OFF. When privacy is activated, the phone cannot be tracked unless an Emergency or Assistance request has been initiated. Initiating an Emergency either by pressing the Emergency button on the phone or by calling the Command and Control Center automatically overrides any previous privacy settings.
  • Online Messaging - The Findafone built-in messaging system allows 2-way communication, via the web interface, with any other Findafone-registered GSM cellphone without involvement of the C&C Center. In addition, messages may be broadcast to any number of GSM cell-phones, whether they are registered or not. Responses to broadcasts will only be receivable from those cell-phones that have been registered on Findafone.
  • Global digital Mapping and route-finding - Findafone users may access global digital mapping for any area in the World. In addition, the route-finding function will generate directions for travel between any two points. These directions may then be printed out.

  • GPS Satellite Navigation System - Users of the GEOS TWIG GSM/GPS cell-phone may also use the fully-featured satellite navigation system both in-car or as a personal navigation system. The new GEOS TWIG handset combines the familiarity, portability and ease-of-use of a mobile phone, with the convenience, functionality and responsiveness of true satellite navigation. More than this, though, the GEOS TWIG takes GPS further, transforming satellite navigation into "personal navigation" – that is, connecting you to your surroundings with "real–time" data and services directly related to your exact location. In addition to navigation services such as street mapping and POI (Point of Interest), TWIG provides location-specific functions such as real-time user tracking; and personal location sharing between friends and family. With GEOS TWIG, you can find friends, colleagues or family members, navigate to them and contact them, all from the same device.

The new GEOS TWIG Discovery is the first personal navigation device on the market to combine GSM mobile telephony with GPS navigation capability. It combines the comfort and ease-of-use of in-car GPS voice guidance systems with the familiar, user-friendly and portable format of a mobile phone. The pre-installed navigation system on the GEOS TWIG Discovery removes the need for an additional expensive GPS receiver.

So, whether you’re in the car, walking along a street, trying to find your friend, or just want to locate a place of interest, your GEOS Twig Discovery navigates and guides you clearly and simply to that location.

Here are some of the additional service solutions built into the GEOS TWIG Discovery phone

TWIG FINDER -– an easy way to locate fellow TWIG users, simply by requesting a position from a specific TWIG user, the device will calculate navigation instructions on how to reach their given position.

TWIG ROUTE – Whether you’re walking or driving, TWIG uses clear, detailed mapping of street or road networks and navigates you the optimum route from where you are to where you want to go.

TWIG POI (Point of Interest) – It could be a petrol station, a famous restaurant or a historic castle, whatever, TWIG POI, navigates you to your chosen point of interest individually, or as part of a planned route.

TWIG ALERT – If you’re lost or have a problem, your GEOS TWIG handset can be programmed to either open a voice call and/or send a SMS with the position, time/date stamp and if applicable direction of travel of the handset, just by pressing the dedicated Alert key. Alert messages are routed either to the GEOS C&C Center or via the ASSIST function depending on the subscription package chosen.
