21 July 2015 at 1419 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in Kitikmeot, Nunavut, Canada.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a 17 year old male who suffered multiple injuries due to being crushed by a thousand pound block of ice while canoeing. The individual was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital where he was treated for his injuries.
