21 February 2016 at 2211 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in New Zealand.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a 29 year old male suffering from broken ribs caused by taking a serious fall while mountain climbing. The individual was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital where he received treatment for his injuries.
