17 April 2016 at 2004 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in British Columbia, Canada.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported an individual sustaining a dislocated shoulder caused by an accident while kayaking. The individual was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital where they were treated for their injury.
