05 July 2016 at 1318 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a 62-year-old male sustaining an injured ankle caused by an accident while salmon fishing. The individual was transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital where he was treated for his injury.
