26 July 2016 at 1413 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in British Columbia, Canada.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a 27-year-old male suffering from severe snow blindness while out hiking. The individual was transported by helicopter to the nearest hospital where he was treated for his condition.
