09 August 2016 at 1703 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in Sequoia National Park, California.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a female suffering from altitude sickness and pulmonary edema while out on a hiking trip. The individual was transported by helicopter to a waiting ambulance that transported her to the nearest hospital where she received treatment.
