30 September 2016 at 2009 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in British Columbia, Canada.  IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a male sustaining a severe thumb injury caused by an accident while hunting. The individual was transported by helicopter to a waiting ambulance that transported him to a nearby hospital where his injury was treated.
