14 March 2017 at 2045 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in Lumpkin County, Georgia. IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a 60-year-old who became lost while out on a hiking trip. The individual was escorted out by a ground team that transported her to a nearby hotel. The individual suffered from mile hypothermia but had no other injuries to report.
