26 April 2017 at 2250 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a SPOT device in Tasmania, Australia. IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a 16-year-old male who injured his leg while on a wilderness trek with 4 other people. The individual was transported by helicopter to a nearby hospital where he was treated.
