28 March 2016 at 2331 GMT the GEOS International Emergency Response Coordination Center (IERCC) received a 911/SOS alert from a Garmin inReach device in Alberta, Canada.   IERCC personnel contacted local emergency services and informed them of the activation. SAR personnel responded to the location and transported a male sustaining a broken ankle caused by an accident while snowmobiling. The individual was transported by helicopter to a waiting ambulance that transported him to the nearest hospital where he was treated for his injury.
