Do not assume that the official emergency services will necessarily have all the personnel and equipment available at that critical time when you need help help fast and in some countries, there may not be official help available at all. If you are legally resident in the USA or Canada, the benefit and service is available in any country you visit. The cost is just

for US and Canadian residents and must be selected at the time of SPOT registration only. The cost for residents of the European Union is €11.00 per year whereas the price for residents in the rest of the World us US$12.95 per year (please see detailed pricing on the family and corporate membership pages below). This special price is only available as part of this special SPOT program. Separate SAR programs are also available, which are unconnected with any particular GPS device and may be purchased at any time. For comparison, the cost of such a separate SAR program ranges from $39.95 to $175.50 depending on subscriber circumstances and may typically be around $150 per year. 

PLEASE NOTE THAT ONCE YOU ARE A MEMBER OF THE GEOS SAR (SPOT) PROGRAM, RENEWALS IN FUTURE YEARS WILL CONTINUE AT THE PROGRAM PRICE. CURRENTLY, THIS REMAINS THE SAME AT US$7.95 (€11.00/US$12.95 FOR EU & REST OF WORLD RESPECTIVELY) PER YEAR AND WILL CONTINUE SUBJECT TO ANNUAL UNDERWRITING REVIEW. THERE ARE CURRENTLY NO PLANS TO INCREASE THIS PRICE FOR MEMBERS RENEWING THEIR SERVICE AND SUCH RENEWALS WILL BE INITIATED AUTOMATICALLY BY SPOT AT THE SAME ORIGINAL PRICE OF $7.95 (€11.00/US$12.95). PLEASE NOTE This benefit does not apply if:-
a)   your situation is caused by circumstances such as a forecast change of weather conditions, which could reasonably have been anticipated at the date you started your trip
b)   you have NOT made adequate provision of resources or training or competence needed to complete your planned trip.  

Please also note that:
1   In the case of death of the Member, GEOS will not be responsible for the transportation of the body
2   GEOS will endeavour to arrange a successful rescue but cannot accept liability for failed rescues due to unforeseen circumstances beyond their control.
