GEOS FINDAFONE TEXT LOCATIONS

Text Locations (also sometimes referred to as Static Locations) enable users to notify GEOS of their location when a GPS device is not available. This may be done by the phone by sending a text (SMS) message to GEOS or by using the web-interface provided on this website.

In situations where neither GPS nor LBS locating is available, a text location may be provided to the GEOS System. When a phone user manually sends a text message such as “Location Austin, Texas, USA” to the GEOS Service Center Number or if the Member uses the web interface provided, Findafone can be used to display that Text Location. The Findafone system positions the users’ phone on a digital map. This is a very simple way of keeping people informed about a phone user’s general location.

Keeping you informed of any emerging threats in your area.
In addition, that Member will now be able to receive Critical Broadcast Alerts relevant TO THAT LOCATION because the GEOS System now "knows" where they are. In this way, GEoS can keep a Member, who does not have a GPS device, notified of any emerging threats to life or health in the area the traveler has registered in.

Using Findafone to display your location
An authorized Findafone user may also “ping” the cellphone, at which time a text message requesting current location verification will be sent to the cellphone and the phone user can respond with a current location automatically generated by acknowledging receipt of the text message.

Please note, however, that although this facility may be particularly useful for those subscribers receiving the Critical Intelligence Alerts service, which is available to Global Traveler and GEOS Pegasus members as part of the Global Emergency Montoring (GEM) service, it will not provide our Response Center with the necessary location accuracy required when responding to an Emergency. For those applications, GEOS recommends the use of an approved GPS-enabled device.
